Time Management: Key to Success

Hello Everyone,

(Here is a wonderful article written on time management and keys to successfully managing our time)

Have you ever heard yourself or anyone say, “I wanted to do this but I just don’t have time.” Or, “I know I need to get this book written but I just don’t have time.” Or, “Man, my home page needs a clean up and my products need some major work but I don’t have time.” The list will go on and on.

It has really impacted a lot of entrepreneur’s sales due to lack of understanding what I share with you. Missing appointments, not replying to emails of clients with speed, and these are but a few that can set back companies and their relationship with the public. And when you don't feel confident, it has a negative impact with your posture. Non verbal communication is flying through and those around you, pick up more than you think.

It can cause mistrust, frustrations from clients and the team. Most of all, it can also lower self esteem.

So, when someone asks me, “how do you manage time,” I reply, “I don’t.” And then they look at me with a dumb founded expression and add, “eh?” Well, that’s right, “I don’t manage time because there is no such thing as managing time, and there never will be, and there never has."

So what do you do then?

Answer
You Priorities and you use the skills I will explain below. Please bear in mind, that to get to this level, will take adjustment, will take something that I covered in the other posts regarding purpose. The foundation must be set, concrete and if it is not, you are going to head towards trouble.

There is hope for those who apply these techniques. I have seen a friend of mine apply these and I will say right now, he was losing it until I he got the following I am about to explain right. It will take time. How long is really upto you.

If you want to keep being busy and nor productive, and get hurt, and lose business, and clients, and have unfinished work, websites, products, tasks, then that is upto you. But if you want to really start fresh and really be honest then this is for you.

Question
How many spend their time in the beginning of the day, doing those many small tasks and avoid the big one? How many sit down, and write out a system, a plan to follow everyday, every week, and putting the largest task first and then work their way to the small ones.

Let’s really rattle your cage, shall we because here is where it starts

Do you know why so many get distracted? Do you know why many do not priorities, and run around like headless chicken, being busy on the smallest of tasks while the major ones that can impact their business are left till last? Look below at what Napolean Hill says:

“There is ONE Quality that one must possess to win, and that is DEFINITENESS of Purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to achieve it.”

Now, what does that say? It says, the ones who cannot priorities are those who do not know what they want, they have no definite purpose even though they say they do. They are out there to SAVE THE WORLD! How about first getting the first business to work, eh?

And because of this, they are confused. They cannot plan. They cannot write down a path. They cannot organize a list of tasks. How can one even do that if the person does not know where they are going?

CLARITY
Before you can identify the big tasks, the major ones, you must have clarity. Clarity is the most important concept for us all regarding personal productivity.

The more clarity there is in your life, the more you can battle procrastination. That’s right. When you know what you want and what you have to do to achieve it, the easier it is for you to overcome procrastination, and work on the big tasks and get on with completing the tasks at hand.

Lack of motivation comes from lack of clarity, vagueness, confusion, fussy mindness, and what you are supposed to do and in WHAT ORDER and for WHAT REASON.

Step One - After Purpose is.. THINK ON PAPER.
Let me make it clearer to you, “Before you begin to scramble up the ladder of success, make sure that it is leaning against the right building.” So make sure you got your purpose, vision right. Make this very clear, right here and now. Get it down on paper.

Step two – Goals must be crystallized

Crystallize your goals. Unwritten goals leads to confusion, fuzziness and distraction. This causes procrastination.

Step three - Deadline

Set a deadline on your goal. A goal or a decision without a deadline has no urgency. So please, let us not kid ourselves.

Step four – The Activities, Tasks…
Make a list of everything you need to do to achieve your goal. And as you think of new activities, tasks, then add them to the list. This has helped me greatly, in giving me a visual picture and even when I wake up, I know what to go for. The one on the top of the list is the BIGGEST, MAJOR TASK that will impact my life big time.

Step 5 – Get Organized and Plan

Organize the list into a plan. Here it is – with sequence of PRIORITY! Decide what has to be done first and what needs to be done later. Even better - create boxes on the side of each task and tick them when you complete them.

This motivates me and keeps me moving. It also makes sure I do not fall for the mediocre way of doing other tasks that can be done later. I follow my list to the letter!

Step 6 – ACTION

When you have got your plan, apply ACTION not excuses of what you haven’t got. Just go and do it. The rest of what you need will come in time. It’s not what you need but what you already have that will take you as far as you want to go. I call this character, integrity, discipline, vision, consistency. Call it what you will but apply ACTION now.

Step 7 – Make Everyday Count

Resolve to do something every day for your business, for your future, for your , for your self development. Let not a day go by without following your list of tasks.

This alone, will help you run circles around the talkers.

Step 8 – Evaluate, Visualize, Reflect

Look at your list at the end of the day and reflect. Look at your goals, visualize what you must do tomorrow. Visualize your goal coming to an end, and the result. Learn from what you have done honestly.

Remember - you cannot manage time but you can Priorities.

Now, apply these steps into your life and I promise you, if you are open, honest with yourself, and you do the following steps with courage, because it will need courage to make decisions and stick with them, then you will see an amazing change in the first week or two of your life.

Yes, the negative habits will try to surface back again but follow these steps and fight it. You'll achieve much more with these steps.
